For our third video assignment I talked about dealing with underage drinking. I actually had a ton of fun doing this video, because I worked with my cousins and friends. I feel like we all worked well together. I feel very confident in my video because I used many techniques. First I used the video taping to bring the problem up. Then I incorporated some text to give the viewer a solution. I tried to make my video not go over the 5 minutes 30 seconds mark but it was very difficult for me to do that. I had a lot of information I needed to present in order to continue the story of my video. Although its a bit lengthy, I was very proud of my topic. Underage drinking is a big problem not only in college, but in high school as well. People think that drinking is fun and nothing bad can happen to them. That is wrong. There are a lot of consequences that involve underage drinking. Thousands of teens die every year because of underage drinking. Did you know, that more than 40% of car crashes are because of drinking and driving? Yeah, that's a lot. Many students think that drinking can relieve stress from the week's work, but there are many other ways to do that. Students can get involved in clubs and activities. They can also excluded them selves from students that do drink a lot. Overall I feel like I worked very hard on this video and used my time wisely to create it.

The Finale!
As we read The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp for class, I began to think more about creativity. This book teaches a lot about creativity and how to become a more creative person. If you lack creativity, it gives you many exercises you can try, to help improve your creativity. Creativity is everywhere you turn in life. Whether its trying to find a job, or working on a project at school. It's all about how creative you are, to attract viewer. Although I feel like I'm a person with a lot of creativity, I still chose to do these activities because you can't be over creative! Some of them even deal with how to accept failure, and what you can work on if you do! Twyla Tharp talks about how she feels she is a creative person. Twyla Tharp works in a blank white room with mirrors on one side. She doesn't let this affect her creativity. In fact, she uses this room as a way to expand her creativity. She uses this white room to make dance pieces, and she actually wins competitions! One thing Twyla Tharp emphasizes is the importance of practice. She believes that people are not born perfect, and that everybody needs to practice in order to master something. After reading this book, Twyla Tharp taught me to not only be creative in everything that I do, but also to accept failure and to learn from it. Creatively is something that is unique in every single person. Everybody is creative in their own way and you are in control of it. I recommended everybody to read this book, because it will open your mind to things you have never noticed before. It is not that hard to read as well, so you can always read it in your spare time!

Field trip to the library!
On Thursday the class met in the library to explore everything the library has to offer. Wendy first walked us through the library to show us where everything is. I really liked that because I haven't seen the whole library before, I discovered many places I could go to study. When Wendy took us into the computer room, I thought it was going to be another boring lecture. I was totally wrong. I liked how we had to do the work rather then just sit there and listen to Wendy. Wendy was very nice to everybody. I felt like she really enjoyed her profession and loved the library. She was very helpful hole I was trying to find my book. One thing I didn't enjoy during this class was the work that needed to be done. I felt like the worksheet she gave us was very confusing. Many people around me didn't know what to do, along with myself. They cold have made the worksheet a little more informative. I would have loved to learn a little more information about what I was doing. I felt like I just jumped right into the assignment without really knowing what I was doing. My favorite part was searching for the article. Although it was very confusing, I feel like it will come in handy in the future. The amount of information we have is incredible. It is very important to sensor your searches because there is just to much information. I feel like going to t he library was a very important thing to do since it will help us in future classes. It also shows that google Is not the answer to everything. The library pays tons of money to get information google does not offer, so we need to use that to our advantage!

They are located in Schwartz Hall 102 or you could give them a call at 203-392-6536. After this trip to the Career service office, I known where to go for all my career needs!

Stay away!
This week I knew I had to be creative in my blog post, so I went on a mission. I wanted to do something that made me learn something about myself. As I was reading Twyla Tharp, I came across a very interesting activity. It was named Brew Ruts into Grooves. In this activity Tharp speaking about turning a bad habit into a good one. You are probably thinking that this is impossible. But guess what, it's not! I have many bad habits but one thing that frustrates me the most is going on social media sites like Twitter and Instagram while I'm studying. I end up being on Twitter and Facebook longer than I end up studying! This gets me very distracted and I tend to do it a lot. I had to make it stop. I used what Tharp said in this activity the next time I was studying. I made sure to sit in my room where I always study and not touch my phone. I was working on Terms and names and I told myself every 10 terms I memorize completely I get to go on my phone for three minutes. Believe it or not, this actually helped me with my studying. I thought about it as a little reward to myself. It also kept me motivated to study and memorize those terms and names. I came to the conclusion that I don't really need the social media sites in my life because they are only distractions. They are awesome when I have nothing to do but get in the way of school work very often. After this activity, I have learned to keep away from my phone while doing school work!

About TIME!
Facing my fear is very hard for me. I cannot do it unless, someone is pushing me or calling me a baby. For this weeks assignment I knew I had to push my limits. I didn't know how or when but I knew I had to. Twyla Tharp talks about how to not not push anything until another time because pushing it away isn't going to make it happen faster. She also says if its something you want to do you have to find the time for it. After reading this I thought to myself that time is always a factor for me because I'm a full time student and I work two jobs. Sometimes when I want to do something I don't have the time to so I push it off until another day. Then when the next day comes I push it away again. Doing something that takes too much time can be overwhelming. This had to change. This week I decided to register to be a AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) coach. Being a coach has been something I really wanted to do because I love the game of soccer. I have been playing soccer my whole life and understand the game better than others and I want to use my knowledge to help younger kids. Becoming a coach is a big responsibility because of the amount of time it takes. I now have practice for an hour twice a week and a game every Saturday. I had to really think about being a coach because of the time it takes. Overall I feel like I made a very good choice because it is something I always wanted to do but I feared it. It is something I always wanted to do so I feel very accomplished.

Talking to a CC!
For this week’s Safari blog I talked to a CC (community coordinator). I asked him how he got involved in being a cc. He told me that it was always encouraged and he felt like he had what it takes to be a CC. He told me a CC has to be an active person in your surrounding and a overall well rounded person. A CC has to also be a good student in the classroom. With all this comes some very nice benefits. If you are a CC you get to live on campus for free. Which is pretty nice and saves you a big chunk of change! But with all this comes responsibilities. If something happens on the CC's floor he is responsible for it. He has to deal with anything that happens 24 hours of the day. It is very hard work!

Twyla Tharp
After reading Twyla Tharp's Creative Habit I believe it is a very interesting book. It helps a person think about how to be creative. It also shows how such a small thing can go a big way. For example, she uses the blank white room as an example. Although this room is all white, it is where all the thinking and creativity happens. In this white room, Twyla creates her dance routines and makes money. I also liked how Twyla Tharp wrote her book. I feel like this book is both for a 3rd grader and a college student. Her use of big and colored letters really brings creatively to the book. After reading this book I noticed that Twyla does not believe in natural ability to be good at something. She believes its all about practice and practice to be good at something. I also enjoyed how she talked about rituals and beliefs. To me, this is a big part of my life because I always do special things before I do something. For instance, before I start to play soccer I always have to walk around the field to get my head in the game. I believe if I don't do this, I won't play my hardest and I won't feel concentrated. Walking around the field helps me get focused and helps me think about what I'm going to do during the game. This is the something for the yoga person turning on the candles. Twyla also talks about muscle memory. You might not know it, but muscle memory is used in everyday life. For me, I use it on the soccer field to know how hard to kick the ball for it to reach its desired destination. Reading this book really opened my mind up to how small things can have a big effect.

Man Vs. Cities Video!
I believe this video was a little harder than the first for many reasons. I sat in front of my computer for a whole hour because I did not know how to start this video. I didn't want it to be the same thing as my first because I felt like I used everything I can in my first video. As Ideas started popping in my head, creating this video got easier and easier. I decided to make my video about what the city of New Haven has to offer for southern students. After I knew what I was going to talk about, The actual video creation went really smoothly because I previously used iMovie to create my first video. I found it very easy to use the second time. I decided to go with a tv show theme because it really interesting to the viewers. I wanted this video to pop out at the viewer and make the viewer really enjoy it. I believed I made this video informative while making it fun and easy for the viewer to watch. Some of my strengths in the video include the video clips and pictures as well as the technology used. Although I had a lot of strengths I believe I had some weaknesses just like every video. Some of my weaknesses include not enough information on the clubs in downtown New Haven. I don't go often do I couldn't put my own information in their and none of them seem to have websites. Sketchy I know. My video went smoothly until I lost power for a week. I was very worries I couldn't upload it in time but UI did a great job and I was able to post my video!
